about
This song was largely unfinished when I started recording it. I’d written the first verse and a chorus, but I wanted to play around with the structure with my producer friend, Gusti. We deconstructed it by successively removing the turnaround measures at the end of each chorus progression. I also wrote the second verse, which is melodically different from the first, on the fly using a writing technique I picked up in Rick Rubin’s new book. I wrote this song about personality disorders and the jaded exhaustion that can set in when you’ve had lots of human connections severed by them. There was a period in my life where I was dealing with lots of mental illness fallout, so it’s sort of a retrospective about that time.
